Dr. Xi Liu is a queer, Chinese diaspora writer and Clinical Psychologist exploring familial guilt, queer love and identity through nonfiction, poetry and short fiction. This is their first publication released out into the world.
The first chapter of this zine is a sample chapter from a book of interviews with other prominent mental health professionals working in Schema Therapy around the world. The focus of this chapter is the Unrelenting Standards schema*.
The second chapter is a poem about the complicated tangles of love and duty between migrant mothers and their children.
The third is a short, queer, coming of age story about first love and first heartbreak, set in a 90s era Western Sydney during the rise of Pauline Hanson.
Dr. Xi Liu's work during therapy hours revolves around intersectionality, community building and doing what they can to make great psychotherapy more accessible to more people.

* Unrelenting Standards schema: An excessively high internalised standard of behaviour and performance that leaves one feeling pressured and comes at the cost of health, relaxation, self esteem and satisfying relationships. It can appear as disproportionate attention to detail, underestimation of one's own performance or rigid rules in multiple areas of life. The purpose of this schema is to avoid hypercriticism, which can be applied towards oneself or others.
